What Counts as a Dental Emergency?
If you are not sure, call us. We will tell you how soon you need to be seen.
Severe Toothache
Throbbing or constant pain, especially if it keeps you up at night or spreads to your jaw or ear.
Broken or Chipped Tooth
A cracked, chipped or broken tooth, with or without pain.
Knocked-Out Tooth
An adult tooth knocked out in a fall or accident. Fast care gives the best chance of saving it.
Swelling or Abscess
Swelling in your gums or face, a bump on the gum, or a bad taste from an infection.
Lost Filling or Crown
A filling or crown that has come out, leaving the tooth sensitive or sharp.
Broken Denture or Appliance
A cracked denture, broken retainer or nightguard that you rely on every day.
What to Do Right Now
Knocked-out tooth
Hold it by the top, not the root. Rinse gently without scrubbing. Try to put it back in the socket, or keep it in milk, and call us right away. The first hour matters most.
Toothache
Rinse with warm salt water and floss gently to remove trapped food. Take an over-the-counter pain reliever as directed on the label. Do not put aspirin on your gums.
Broken tooth
Save any pieces, rinse your mouth with warm water and hold a cold compress on your cheek to reduce swelling.
Swelling
Hold a cold compress on the outside of your cheek for 10 minutes at a time and call us the same day.
Lost filling or crown
Keep the crown and bring it with you. Avoid chewing on that side until we see you.
Go to the ER or call 911 if you have:
- Swelling that affects breathing or swallowing
- Bleeding that will not stop
- High fever with facial swelling
- A possible broken jaw after an accident
Emergency exam from $89
Includes a limited exam and X-ray to find the problem. If you need treatment, we explain the cost first. Most PPO plans accepted, and larger costs can be split into monthly payments.

Do you offer same-day emergency dental appointments?
We see emergency patients as quickly as we can, same-day or next-day, depending on the schedule. Call (714) 505-9462 as early as possible and we will find you the soonest opening.
How much does an emergency dental visit cost?
A limited emergency exam with X-rays starts from $89. If you need treatment, we explain the cost before we begin, and most PPO plans help cover it.
Do you take insurance for emergency visits?
Yes. We accept many PPO plans and Medicare PPO dental plans. We check your benefits and can split larger costs into monthly payments.
When should I go to the ER instead of a dentist?
Go to the emergency room or call 911 if you have swelling that affects your breathing or swallowing, bleeding that will not stop, a high fever with facial swelling, or a jaw injury after an accident.
