Root Canal Treatment in Tustin, CA
Relieve the Pain and Save Your Tooth
When infection or inflammation reaches the inside of a tooth, a root canal removes it, seals the tooth and stops the pain, so you can keep your natural tooth instead of losing it.
- Relieves pain from an infected tooth
- Permanent filling placed right after treatment
- Most PPO plans pay part of the cost
- The tooth is fully numbed, so most patients feel pressure, not pain
- A permanent filling is placed right after the root canal
Example only. Your rate and monthly payment depend on approval. Your exact cost is confirmed after your exam.
What is a root canal?
Inside every tooth is the pulp, a soft tissue that holds the nerve and blood vessels. Deep decay, a crack or an injury can let bacteria reach the pulp and cause infection.
During a root canal, the infected pulp is removed and the canals are cleaned, disinfected and sealed. Dr. Desai places a permanent filling right after treatment and recommends having the crown made right away, because evidence suggests the sooner a crown is placed, the better the tooth's long-term outlook.
Signs you might need a root canal
- Tooth pain that lingers or keeps coming back
- Sensitivity to hot or cold that lasts after the hot or cold is gone
- A tooth that has turned gray or dark
- Tenderness when you bite, or swelling near one tooth
- A pimple-like bump on the gum. Read 7 Signs You Might Need a Root Canal

Common Questions
Does a root canal hurt?
The tooth is fully numbed, so most patients feel pressure rather than pain. Mild soreness for a few days afterward is common. Read Root Canal Aftercare.
Do I need a crown after a root canal?
Most back teeth do. Dr. Desai recommends having the crown made right away, because the sooner it is placed, the better the tooth's long-term outlook.
Do you treat molars?
Yes. Dr. Desai and her associate dentists treat front teeth, premolars and molars in the office. Root canal retreatments (redoing an old root canal) are referred to a specialist.
Is it better to pull the tooth instead?
Saving your natural tooth is usually the first choice. Read Root Canal or Extraction and Implant to compare.
Can antibiotics fix an infected tooth?
Antibiotics can help control a spreading infection, but they can't remove the infected pulp. The tooth needs a root canal or an extraction.
