About the treatment

What is the difference between a crown and a bridge?

A crown is a custom cap that covers the whole visible part of a tooth. It restores the tooth's shape and strength and protects it from breaking. We make crowns from zirconia and esthetic layered porcelain, crafted in a dental lab.

A bridge fills the gap left by a missing tooth. A new tooth is held in place by crowns on the neighboring teeth. If you'd rather not reshape the teeth next to the gap, a dental implant is another option. Compare materials in Porcelain, Metal, Zirconia and Composite Crowns.

FAQ

Common Questions

How long do crowns and bridges last?

With good care and regular checkups, crowns and bridges can last many years. Avoid chewing ice or hard objects, and wear a night guard if you grind.

Which crown materials do you offer?

We offer zirconia crowns, which are very strong and tooth-colored, and esthetic layered porcelain crowns, which look the most natural. We don't offer metal crowns. Dr. Desai will recommend the best fit for your tooth and bite.

Do you offer same-day crowns?

No. Our crowns are custom-made in a dental lab, so you'll wear a temporary crown for a short time while yours is made.

Bridge or implant: which is better?

A bridge relies on the neighboring teeth, which are shaped for crowns. An implant replaces the root and doesn't touch the neighboring teeth. We'll go over both at your visit.

How much does a dental crown cost?

A tooth-colored porcelain crown is about $37 to $63 a month per tooth with financing. Many PPO plans pay part, and your exact cost is confirmed after your exam.

Does insurance cover crowns?

Many PPO plans pay part of a crown when it is needed to restore a tooth. We check your benefits before treatment.
