Tooth Extractions in Tustin, CA

Gentle Extractions That Protect Your Bone

When a tooth can't be saved, we remove it gently and, when needed, place a bone graft in the empty socket. This socket preservation helps protect the bone so you have more options for replacing the tooth later.

  • Most wisdom teeth removed here, under oral sedation
  • Socket preservation to protect the bone
  • Gentle removal of damaged teeth

About the treatment

When does a tooth need to be removed?

We always try to save a tooth first. An extraction may be recommended when a tooth is badly broken, deeply decayed, loose from gum disease, or when a wisdom tooth is impacted or causing problems.

If you're deciding between saving a tooth and replacing it, read Root Canal or Extraction and Implant.

Is it right for you?

What is socket preservation?

  • Bone graft material is placed in the empty socket right after the tooth is removed
  • It helps preserve the bone, which naturally shrinks after a tooth is lost
  • It helps prevent dry socket pain
  • It keeps the site ready for a dental implant later. Read Bone Grafting for Dental Implants

FAQ

Common Questions

Does a tooth extraction hurt?

The area is fully numbed, so you should feel pressure, not pain. Some soreness for a few days afterward is normal.

Do I need socket preservation?

If you may want an implant later, or the tooth is in a visible area, socket preservation helps keep the bone. Dr. Desai will tell you if it's recommended for you.

Do you remove wisdom teeth?

Yes. Dr. Desai removes most wisdom teeth here in the office, under oral sedation, when they are impacted, causing pain or putting other teeth at risk.

What can I eat after an extraction?

Stick to soft, cool foods for the first few days and avoid straws, smoking and chewing on that side.
