Crown Lengthening in Tustin, CA

More Tooth for a Strong Crown or a Balanced Smile

Crown lengthening reshapes the gum, and sometimes the bone, to expose more of a tooth. It is done so a crown can be placed securely, or to correct a gummy smile.

  • Exposes more tooth for a secure crown
  • Can balance a gummy smile
  • Treated by a dentist with periodontics training
Crown lengthening, estimated monthly
$27 to $46/mo per tooth
  • Done with local numbing
  • Can be for one tooth or several

About the treatment

Why is crown lengthening done?

When a tooth is broken or decayed at or below the gumline, there may not be enough tooth showing to hold a crown. Crown lengthening exposes more of the tooth so the crown fits well and lasts.

It can also be done for cosmetic reasons, when the teeth look short because the gums cover too much of them. Dr. Desai has postgraduate training in periodontics, the specialty that treats the gums and the bone that supports the teeth.

FAQ

Common Questions

Is crown lengthening painful?

The area is numbed during treatment. Mild soreness for a few days afterward is common.

How long before I can get my crown?

The gums need time to heal first, usually 4 to 8 weeks. We'll give you a timeline.

What is the difference between crown lengthening and a gingivectomy?

A gingivectomy removes gum tissue only. Crown lengthening can also reshape the bone so more tooth is exposed.
