Deep Cleaning in Tustin, CA
Stop Gum Disease Before It Spreads
A deep cleaning (scaling and root planing) removes tartar and bacteria from below the gumline, where a regular cleaning can't reach. It treats gum disease and helps the gums heal and reattach to the teeth.
- Treats gum disease below the gumline
- Laser bacterial reduction recommended with every deep cleaning
- Many PPO plans pay part of the cost
- The area is numbed so you stay comfortable
- Often done in 1 to 2 visits
Example only. Your rate and monthly payment depend on approval. Your exact cost is confirmed after your exam.
What is a deep cleaning?
A regular cleaning removes plaque and tartar above and just below the gumline. A deep cleaning goes further, cleaning the root surfaces deep below the gumline and smoothing them so the gums can reattach.
We recommend laser bacterial reduction for every gum patient, along with deep cleanings and periodontal maintenance cleanings. Dr. Desai has postgraduate training in periodontics, the specialty that treats the gums and the bone that supports the teeth.

Common Questions
Does a deep cleaning hurt?
The area is numbed, so most patients feel pressure rather than pain. Gums can be tender and teeth a little sensitive for a few days afterward.
Why do I need a deep cleaning instead of a regular cleaning?
When tartar and bacteria are below the gumline in deeper pockets, a regular cleaning can't reach them. A deep cleaning treats the gum disease. Read Is a Deep Cleaning Necessary?
How often will I need cleanings afterward?
Most patients with a history of gum disease need maintenance cleanings every 3 to 4 months to keep it under control.
What happens if I skip it?
Gum disease usually progresses quietly. Over time, pockets deepen, bone is lost and teeth can loosen.
